Giorgia Franchin is an assistant professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Padova. In 2017 she obtained a PhD in Industrial Engineering, also from the University of Padova. During her PhD studies she worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab (Cambridge, MA) with the Mediated Matter group.
She was also a Visiting Scientist at the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) (Berlin, DE) in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Her main research interests lie in additive manufacturing of ceramic materials. In particular, she is interested in innovative formulations and technologies that enable the production of components with complex shapes and functional properties.
She has focused on liquid feedstocks, such as preceramic polymers to produce scaffolds and CMC composites, geopolymer for environmental protection applications, sol-gel formulations for oxide and carbide ceramics.
